Copper is the first metal used by humans either clear or in its alloy form for making everyday items. Those items are still unalterable up to date due to the copper’s resistance to the natural phenomenon of oxidation and to the mechanical process.
Nowadays various applications and uses of copper have been developed. This is due to, not only the copper’s resistance and easy treatment but also to a number of exceptional properties that make copper unique in its use. Copper’s applications are scientifically checked and fully approved. Copper Cu-DHP (CW024A) is certified according to the specification DIN 50930-6/August 2001 that make it suitable for use in drinking water installations.
Recent studies of the anti-microbial efficiency of copper in various touch surfaces have shown that copper and its alloy eliminate most of the powerful types of microbes including Legionella pneumophila (causing pneumonia) , Staphylococcus aureus, flue type A, as well as other viruses harmful to our health.
The above properties place copper truly effective when used for hygiene reasons in healthcare (hospitals, surgery rooms, etc.).
The most usable property of copper is its high thermal conductivity combined with its high resistance in chemical procedures and antimicrobial efficiency. These make copper the best material used in the manufacture of solar system worldwide.
To understand the usefulness of copper in solar energy systems and especially to the storage tanks of hot water coming from the solar water heater, it is necessary for a brief report on their function.
Specifically, a solar water heater consists of the solar collectors, the boiler (the tank where the hot water is storage), the cradle and the connection pipes between the collector and the boiler. The solar collector absorbs the sun energy and heats the containing liquid (solution of water and propylene glycol). As soon as that liquid is heated, it comes through the pipes connecting the collector to the boiler and transmits its heating energy through the Heat exchanger (copper cloak) to the water in the boiler for home usage purposes.
